This update introduces a new sidebar section and color coded section in the layout editor. Also, I have published a live preview page.

Only certain gadget types can be displayed at the moment: HTML, LinkList, Label.
Color Coded Layout Section

The color of widget sections has been adjusted:
- roaming widgets: default background (light grey)
- template views HTML: orange
- page builder scripts (locked, JS): yellow
- prebuild & postbuild assets: green
Comment Section
In progress. Available in the next update.
My current implementation uses an API key. I can't share it because it counts towards my usage quota. I'm thinking of implementing an alternative: a json-in-script comments feed, which isn't limited by a usage quota, but has heavier data to download because it doesn't support partial response.
I'll share both implementations. Should you choose to implement the first one, you'll have to find the guide on setting up the Blogger API key for your blog.
Migrating
No easy way to migrate gadget settings right now,
- Backup and apply your old template code to a temporary blog.
- Apply the new template code to the target blog.
- Transfer the blog widget settings from temporary blog to the target blog.
